Contestants from Poltava took part in the Third All-Ukrainian Sports Contest among the disabled workers

Recently, in Uzhgorod at the sports complex “Youth” took place the final competitions of the Third All-Ukrainian Sports Contest among the disabled workers called “The power of the spirit.”
Sports event of this level, which has become a tradition, takes place in Ukraine for the third time. Every year the sports contest becomes more popular, more and more contestants take part in it. It helps to integrate disabled people into contemporary society and provide them with psychological, physical and social rehabilitation, involves them into active social life.
Sports event has started with a procession of standard bearers, rendering the State Anthem of Ukraine, introduction and hoisting of the national flag of Ukraine, ignition of sports contest torch. Athletes were greeted by the leaders of the Foundation and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, heads of regional departments of the executive board of the Fund, local regional authorities, deputies and fans. The organizer of the sports contest for the third year is the Occupational Injury and Disease Insurance Fund. Sports contest was opened with a speech of welcome by the organizing committee chairman, executive director of the Foundation Valery Akopyan. He also read out greetings from the State governance – President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine submitted to the contestants and guests of the Sports Contest with the wishes of victory in the competition. Guests and participants were also welcomed by Uzhgorod Variety and Wind Orchestra led by Vladimir Spivak and students of Uzhgorod College of Culture and Arts.
270 representatives from 25 regions of Ukraine took part in a sports contest this year. Amateur athletes, under wardship of Occupational Injury and Disease Insurance Fund, arrived with the hope to contest for victory in six events: arm sport, bombasket, weight lifting, darts, ping-pong and chess. Qualified judges headed by the chief judge, master of sports Anatoly Plekhanov, attentively watched the contests.
For a team of amateur athletes from Poltava region participation in the Third All-Ukrainian Sports Contest was successful. Eleven winners of regional qualifying events, demonstrated all their best qualities, team spirit, strong will and desire to win, showed good results and won an honorable fourth place in the overall standings of 25 teams from all over Ukraine, ceded only to teams from Odessa, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions. This successful result was brought to the team of Poltava Region by gold medalist Demyanko Oksana (ping-pong) from Karlivka, silver medalist Martyuk Catherine (bombasket) from Khorol, bronze medalist Melnik Sergiy (arm sport) from Chervonozavodske (Lokhvitsya district), Sarychev Fedir (chess) from Kozelshchyna. Well performed Anatoliy Moroz (weight lifting) from Kremenchuk, Goloborodko Julia (darts) from Lubny District, Nechay Grygoriy (darts) of Velyka Bahachka District, Patalakh Valentin (arm sport) from Kremenchuk who won respectively 5, 6, 8 and 9 places in their events. Team of Poltava region also won the prize for third place in the team championship in ping-pong. In addition to medals and diplomas, the winners were awarded with valuable gifts and flowers. Each of the participants of this unique sports event demonstrated exceptional courage, endurance, strength of mind.
Each of them has its own difficult story and a common desire to live an active life. This is impressive. Such athletes are a good example to all our people, because finding themselves in a difficult situation they haven’t lost faith in life and hope for the future. And the hopes and aspirations of the Poltava team are very ambitious – to do their best to win one of the highest prize-winning places on the following All-Ukrainian Sports Contest among the disabled workers “Strength of Spirit” next year!
