Poltava will honor the Heavenly hundred and victims of Holodomor with sorrowful procession

In November, Poltava commemorates two important dates – The Day of dignity and freedom – November 21, and The Day of memory of Holodomor victims – 28 November.

The working group at a meeting in the Poltava Regional State Administration discussed regional and local events dedicated to these dates, which will take place in all settlements of Poltava region.

In particular, the Chief of staff of the Regional State Administration Nikolay Belokon said that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree №633 of 9 November 2015 “On celebration of the Day of dignity and freedom.”

Director of the Department of Information and Communication Vadim Shtefan said that key events would be laying flowers, sorrowful processions and commemoration of the victims.

In particular, on 21 November at the Memorial of Sorrow in Mhar (Lubny region) will take place an event of commemoration, requiem meeting in memory of Holodomor and mourning procession.

In commemoration of these dates, all the State flags in Poltava will be lowered and entertainment activities will be restricted.

It is also planned to accomplish monuments, graves of Heavenly Hundred heroes, etc.

The events will be attended by representatives of executive authorities, local communities, civil society, including participants of revolutionary events in Ukraine in 2004, 2013 – 2014, families of Heavenly Hundred heroes, ATO participants, representatives of voluntary movements, clergy.

Various thematic exhibitions, museum events, exhibitions of archival documents, literature reviews and interviews, conferences and seminars will take place all over Poltava region.

Proper departments of Poltava Regional State Administration received instructions on organization and maintenance measures.

At the time of working on the plan of commemoration between the authorities and the public arose discussion about the involvement of religious confessions, so they decided to invite all to join the processions.

Events of these days conducted to commemoration of the victims of the totalitarian regime, Holodomor Memorial Day, anniversary of the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of dignity, to grant honours to Ukrainian courage and patriotism.
